【摘要】:Thistestmethodcoversthenon-adiabaticdeterminationofthespontaneousheatingvalues(SHV)ofliquidsandsolids.Itisapplicabletosubstancesthatarenotcompletelyvolatileatthetesttemperature.Spontaneousheatingvaluesobtainedbythistestmethodarequalitativeindicationsofthedegreeofself-heatingthatmaybeexpectedtooccuruponexposureofthesampletoairatthetesttemperature.Valuesobtainedbythismethodareapplicabletoliquidsandsolidssupportedoncellulosicsurfaces.Theyarenotapplicabletoliquidsonmetalsurfaces,oncontaminatedsurfaces,oratpressuresaboveatmospheric.Spontaneousheatingvaluesdeterminedbythepresenttestmethodareregardedonlyasqualitativemeasurementsofself-heatingwhichoccursundertheconditionsofthetest.Thetestmethoddoesnotpurporttoproduceaquantitativemeasureoftheenthalpyofreactionofthesamplewithairatagiventesttemperature.Suchdatacanbeobtainedbytheuseofanadiabaticcalorimeter.Theexistence,underthetestconditions,ofapositivetemperaturedifferencebetweenthesampleandthereferenceisevidenceofathermochemicalreactioninthesample.Themagnitudeofthemeasuredtemperaturedifferenceisasemiquantitativeindicationoftheenthalpyandrateofthatreaction.Sincefactorssuchasheatlossfromthesampletothebathandquenchingofthereactionduetotoorapidconsumptionofoxygenaffecttheamountanddurationofthemeasuredheateffect,caremustbetakennottoattributetoomuchquantitativesignificancetothetestresults.Itissufficient,forthepurposeofthistest,todeterminewhetherornotthesampleiscapableofundergoingaself-heatingreactionofsufficientmagnitudeandrapiditytoproduceadetectablethermaleffect.Thespontaneousheatingvalue(SHV)canbelowerthanthetesttemperature.Anegativeresultdoesnotprecludespontaneousheatinginitiatingatatemperaturehigherthanthetesttemperature.Thisstandardshouldbeusedtomeasureanddescribetheresponseofmaterials,products,orassembliestoheatandflameundercontrolledconditionsandshouldnotbeusedtodescribeorappraisethefire-hazardorfire-riskofmaterials,products,orassembliesunderactualfireconditions.However,resultsofthistestmaybeusedaselementsofafire-hazardassessmentorafire-riskassessmentwhichtakesintoaccountallofthefactorswhicharepertinenttoanassessmentofthefirehazardorfireriskofaparticularenduse.ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Incaseswherematerials,productsorequipmentareavailableininch-poundunitsonly,SIunitsareomitted.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
