【摘要】:Thecarbonresiduevalueofthevariouspetroleummaterialsservesasanapproximationofthetendencyofthematerialtoformcarbonaceoustypedepositsunderdegradationconditionssimilartothoseusedinthetestmethod,andcanbeusefulasaguideinmanufactureofcertainstocks.However,careneedstobeexercisedininterpretingtheresults.Thistestmethodoffersadvantagesofbettercontroloftestconditions,smallersamples,andlessoperatorattentioncomparedtoTestMethodD189,towhichitisequivalent.Uptotwelvesamplesmayberunsimultaneously,includingacontrolsamplewhenthevialholdershowninFig.1isusedexclusivelyforsampleanalysis.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationoftheamountofcarbonresidue(seeNote1)formedafterevaporationandpyrolysisofpetroleummaterialsundercertainconditionsandisintendedtoprovidesomeindicationoftherelativecokeformingtendencyofsuchmaterials.1.2ThetestresultsareequivalenttotheConradsonCarbonResiduetest(seeTestMethodD189).Thisprocedureisamodificationoftheoriginalmethodandapparatusforcarbonresidueofpetroleummaterials,whereithasbeendemonstratedthatthermogravimetryisanotherapplicabletechnique.However,itistheresponsibilityoftheoperatortoestablishoperatingconditionstoobtainequivalentresultswhenusingthermogravimetry.1.3Thistestmethodisapplicabletopetroleumproductsthatpartiallydecomposeondistillationatatmosphericpressureandwastestedforcarbonresiduevaluesof0.10to30%(m/m).Samplesexpectedtobebelow0.10weight%(m/m)residueshouldbedistilledtoremove90%(V/V)oftheflaskcharge(seeSection).The10%bottomsremainingisthentestedforcarbonresiduebythistestmethod.1.4Ash-formingconstituents,asdefinedbyTestMethodD482,ornon-volatileadditivespresentinthesamplewilladdtothecarbonresiduevalueandbeincludedaspartofthetotalcarbonresiduevaluereported.1.5Alsoindieselfuel,thepresenceofalkylnitrates,suchasamylnitrate,hexylnitrate,oroctylnitrate,causesahighercarbonresiduevaluethanobservedinuntreatedfuel,whichmayleadtoerroneousconclusionsastothecoke-formingpropensityofthefuel.ThepresenceofalkylnitrateinthefuelmaybedetectedbyTestMethodD4046.1.6si-value;1.7Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetypracticesandtodeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Forspecificwarningstatements,see8.2.3and8.4.
